This project is for a small Spanish restaurant tucked away in a shopping street in Maebashi City. Despite the limited floor area, the design aimed to create an inviting, street-facing presence. The original façade was renovated with glass sash windows, and a counter accessible from the outside was added to encourage casual engagement with passersby. Inside, the atmosphere evokes Spain through the use of tiles and furniture, while personal items collected by the owner add a constantly evolving touch to the interior. Around the dining area, the space is subtly divided using level changes, low walls, columns, and beams—all while maintaining the minimum clearances required for restaurant operation. As a result, guests sit close to one another yet feel a comfortable sense of separation and ease—creating an atmosphere that feels like a small casa (Spanish for “home”).
