This project involves adding a new outbuilding to the grounds of the “House in Nonaka-cho,” which was completed in 2023.
Back when this land was a pear orchard, a farm stand stood in the open space near the road, serving as a daily point of connection with the town. By placing this small structure at the very forefront of this approach, the project redefines how the entire site is used, creating a new hub of community activity where residents and the local community can actively engage with one another. In addition to the hair salon in the main house, the site now hosts a café once a week, resulting in a layering of diverse “activities open to the town.” This small, multi-purpose space transforms the private property into a generous vessel shared with the community, serving as a fluid “third place” where outsiders can gather.
