This project involves a vintage clothing store with an attached café located in Aramaki-cho, Maebashi City. In addition to expanding the sales floor and café space from the previous store, the project required a space to house a warehouse for inventory management. Based on the premise of minimizing changes to the existing plumbing and drainage systems, the positions of the partition walls were determined based on the required floor area allocations for the sales floor and warehouse. Analysis of the as-built drawings revealed that demolishing the ceiling would create a large, open space exposing the structural framework; therefore, the design called for a single, expansive counter to create a sense of spaciousness. Furthermore, since the store faces the street, the entire wall facing the road was replaced with fixed windows to create an open, outward-facing space.
