群馬県渋川市にて40年間銀行として使われていた建物を、古着を中心に取り扱うアパレルショップへコンバージョンするプロジェクトである。店主は既存建物のレンガタイルの外壁や金庫の重厚なステンレス製の扉に魅了されこの場所に出店することを決めた。建物の風合いを最大限生かすよう壁はラワンベニヤで覆い、天井はレンガタイルに色味を合わせて塗装した。ラワン壁の塗装は調色したサンプルをいくつも作りながら現地で確認し、既存部分とうまく調和する風合いに仕上げることができた。広い店内で店主が模様替えしやすいよう、組み替え可能な吊り式のハンガーパイプと可動式の置き什器で店内を構成している。古着と建物、それぞれが持つ時間の経過による味わいを大切にするため古いものに丁寧に手入れをすることで、古きものから新しい価値を見出すことができた。

This is a project to convert a 40-year-old bank building in Shibukawa, Gunma, into a vintage store. The owner was attracted by the brick tile exterior walls and the massive stainless steel door of the vault, and decided to open a store in this location. In order to maximize the texture of the building, the walls were covered with lauan plywood and the ceiling was painted to match the color of the brick tiles. By preparing many samples of the wall colors and checking them on site, we succeeded in blending the colors with the existing part of the building. The interior of the store is composed of movable hanging clothe racks and shelves so that the owner can easily rearrange the store. By respecting the time-honored flavors of both the vintage clothes and the old building, we were able to find new value in old things.
